UNI EN ISO 14116:2015 - EUROPEAN STANDARD

Protective clothing. Flame protection.

Clothing, materials, and a set of materials with limited flame spread. The standard specifies performance requirements for limited flame-spread properties of materials, material assemblies, and protective clothing, in order to reduce the possibility of a garment burning in the event of occasional brief contact with small flames, thereby that represents a danger in itself. Extra necessities for clothing are additionally indicated, including design requirements, mechanical requirements, marking, and information to be provided by the manufacturer. When protection against heat hazards is required in addition to protection against flames, this standard is not appropriate. As an alternative, standards such as ISO 11612 should be used.

A classification system is provided for materials, material assemblies and protective clothing tested in accordance with ISO 15025, Procedure A. The benefits are divided into 3 levels. Level 1 indicates the lowest level of benefits.

Requirements for a limited flame spread level - Level 1

Properties

Requirements

Flame spread

No specimen shall allow any part of the lower limit of a flame or the limit of any hole to reach the upper or vertical edge.

Flaming waste

No specimen should generate inflamed residues

Residual glow

Nessuna incandescenza residua >2s

Secondo ISO 15025 dopo la cessazione delle fiamme, l’incandescenza residua non deve propagarsi dalla zona carbonizzata a quella intatta.

Requirements for a limited flame spread level - Level 2

Properties

Requirements

Flame spread

No specimen shall allow any part of the lower limit of a flame or the limit of any hole to reach the upper or vertical edge.

Flaming waste

No specimen should generate inflamed residues

Residual glow

No residual glow> 2s,

According to ISO 15025 after the cessation of the flames, the residual incandescence must not spread from the charred area to the intact one.

Hole formation

No specimen should have holes greater than or equal to 5 mm in any direction, except for an intermediate coating used for specific protection other than flame protection.
